Do not blame a company for your ignorance

I have been a paid protonmail user for 9 years now, I saw them growing and adding new functionality on a regular basis and the service got better and better as time moved on. I was really surprised with the amount of negative reviews on here and I just came here to give some sort of balancing review. My feeling is that the majority of customers that leave negative reviews are not aware on why protonmail is a very secure mailprovider. First of all they can't access your mail.. So if you lose ...

Valentino knows what he talks about

I had a pretty difficult question about how the private key used for decrypting my email was stored. I got a complete answer from Valentino, that remove any doubt that I was having. Thanks !

Misleading and predatory pricing practices

Proton engages in misleading and predatory pricing practices when it comes to their subscriptions, removing previously purchased deals with no warning or explanation

Not a good choice to anyone anymore

Maybe back in the day it was a favorable email provider because of their securities and good policies that protected your and other privacy, but now it just became conventional and overpriced. It will work for a month, maybe two, but just keep in mind that you might get suspended out of nowhere due to the "anti-abuse system picking up suspicious activities," then they will do an investigation and come up with something like, "Ahh, your account will stay suspended because of violations done ...

Your account will get disabled without explanation

Horrible email provider. My account got disabled without any explanation. I have lost access to a very important service that I have signed up using their email. I do not engage in spam, scam or abuse of any sorts. There are tons of similar complains all over the internet wish I saw them earlier.

Great for a barebones / private email provider…

Great for a barebones / private email provider. I think they have the balance between free features and paid features well done. The free version is perfectly useable (I've been a happy user for the past 3 years) and from what I can tell the extra paid features would be worth the (admittedly expensive) fee if you need them.

Proton Mail Prioritizes Security (Which May Be Difficult For Some Customers)

Proton Mail and the customer service has been stellar, at least for me. Many of the complaints, not all, seem to reflect the lack of understanding of how a secure email service needs to work to remain secure. A high level of the customers' own responsibility is necessary. I mean, DO NOT LOSE YOUR PASSWORD and expect customer service to easily restore your account. I can only imagine the number of bad actors, include governments, who try all sorts of actions to gain access to the secure ...

proton mail account - unable to easily change PW details

I am still with proton but I needed to change my password. I cant recall old one as access to original machine bypassed password. They insist that if I change my password unless I recall old one - even though I am using recovery email & 2FA code - that I will lose my messages, contacts etc. I continue to use it from laptop. There is an exceptions route that works. I was not aware of it beforehand. I am satisfied the matter has been resolved now. With help of their customer service
