I have been using Proton for a couple years now. I have always been happy with the free email and enough so that I decided I would go with a paid plan as it offered me a bit more than the free version. So far, other than a few minor issues that have been resolved quickly via support, things have run flawlessly. I use their free vpn from time to time and it seems to work well. What do you like best about Protonmail? I love how it gives you the option to encrypt an email to someone who isn't on Proton. The self-destruct option is also very cool. ProtonMail Is fast and has a lot of cool features. I totally recommend it. I recently had a massive account problem, and it was fixed in just a few days.

My opinion

Anyone telling you ProtonMail is (expensive) is a liar as the free service works perfectly fine. I've been using this service for around a year now and I've never felt any need to upgrade to their premium based service. 500 MB is plenty for emails and as a matter of fact it's what a lot of ISPs give their customers for their email plans.
