Basecamp pros and cons

  • Simple, user-friendly interface that is intuitive even for beginners, making it easy for teams to adopt and use efficiently.

  • Centralizes all project information, including documents, tasks, and communications, enabling seamless collaboration and organization.

  • Strong team collaboration tools, including real-time communication, task assignments, and notifications to keep everyone aligned.

  • Highly effective for remote and hybrid teams, allowing easy management of tasks and communication across distances.

  • Lacks robust customization options for advanced users, particularly in file storage and integrations, which can limit flexibility.

  • Minimalist feature set may lack advanced capabilities like complex reporting or kanban customization that power users might expect.

Useful and user-friendly

What do you like best? The site has a great layout, and the functionality is everything you'd expect. And if something doesn't work, there's a good support community. What do you dislike? Haven't really encountered anything I don't like or can't work around. What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? If you're using Basecamp, you're usually looking to solve a communications issue. However, there are other benefits too, as Basecamp is ...

A horrible collaboration tool

What do you like best? What do I like about it? Well, I suppose it is better than NO collaboration tool, but only barely. Post-it notes and carrier pigeons would likely work better. What do you dislike? My hatred for Basecamp burns with the fury of a thousand suns. Okay, that's an exaggeration. The fury of a hundred suns. Of all the collaboration or project management tools I have ever used, Basecamp was the worst. In fairness, it's been at least a year and a half since I used it, so ...

Basecamp for In-House Creative Teams

What do you like best? - Basecamp is great for collaboration. You can easily add and remove individuals to projects, discussions, and specific comments. It is also very easy to send and receive files within Basecamp. I also heavily rely on the Project Overview screen which features the latest project updates along with time stamps, and a Discussion overview which makes it easy to navigate and find discussions relevant to your role. What do you dislike? I dislike that Basecamp does not ...

Great Product

What do you like best? Its collaborative, you can have to do lists and a calendar. What do you dislike? The to do lists are a bit hard to manage when it comes to seeing what has already been done and with adding notes to them. Recommendations to others considering the product Try it. There is a free trial. Use tutorials and look at case studies to see how other people use it. For example, my team creates multiple to do lists, one for each stage of completion ie. not started, ...

What do you like best? Let's you get started right away and collaborate with your team What do you dislike? Need a little more project management capabilities; lots of to-do's but not a lot of critical path views What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? Simple team task management

Task list not project management

What do you like best? Basecamp is very intuitive and easy to use. There is very little learning curve. If what you need is lots of task lists Basecomp will work for you. What do you dislike? What I dislike about Basecamp is that it fundamentally is not a project management tool. The core of a project management tool is to create a list of tasks, organize dependencies, determine who is going to be doing what, schedule it and then adjust the schedule based on resource contention. ...

Good for communications

What do you like best? Basecamp is a simple and useful project management system that allows to keep communication with clients. What do you dislike? The new version does not have time tracking. What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? It replaces the email so I have communications in centralized place.

Basecamp for Project Management

What do you like best? I have used Basecamp for years and it's the best project management tool until somehow I use another one which is better. It's intuitive, integrates with Google Docs, is easy to communicate with clients and colleagues and the UI is excellent. What do you dislike? Not much; although I did prefer the old calendar feature to the new one. The old one used to display above the project home screen - now it is in another tab and I fail to use it as much. ...
