Basecamp pros and cons

  • Simple, user-friendly interface that is intuitive even for beginners, making it easy for teams to adopt and use efficiently.

  • Centralizes all project information, including documents, tasks, and communications, enabling seamless collaboration and organization.

  • Strong team collaboration tools, including real-time communication, task assignments, and notifications to keep everyone aligned.

  • Highly effective for remote and hybrid teams, allowing easy management of tasks and communication across distances.

  • Lacks robust customization options for advanced users, particularly in file storage and integrations, which can limit flexibility.

Pretty Happy (Base)Camper

What do you like best? We are a print, digital and marketing group at a major university, and have been using Basecamp for several years. We are looking into upgrading to Basecamp 3, which I am excited about. Basecamp 2 has been great for our department for both print and digital project tracking. And it's always fun to catch the boss man in an incorrect statement! We use it only for project management and collaboration, and not for time tracking or billing purposes. I look forward to ...

Nothing super special

What do you like best? The organization and the ease of collaboration. What do you dislike? Nothing stands out to where I'd choose it over another program. It isn't as user friendly as other options. What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? Not really helping me solve any. I use it because other people on my team have it.

Positive Experience with Basecamp

What do you like best? The ability to share files and comments on certain projects. I can have multiple projects going as well. What do you dislike? I wish I could have to do lists that were private on a shared project. If that's possible - I don't know how to do it! Recommendations to others considering the product It's a great way to collaborate on various projects with multiple people. It's easy to use, efficient, and definitely helps in many ways with all the projects we have ...

User Friendly

What do you like best? Real time email notifications, archive of all messages, assignment of users to specific projects. The software is easy for someone to use that is not super familiar with project management software. What do you dislike? If there are a lot of messages under a topic it can be difficult to find what you are looking for. What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? Management of multiple projects with multiple vendors ...

Good for groups- not great for internal use with companies!

What do you like best? Basecamp does a great job with simple and efficient messaging and tasks for large groups. We use it often to communicate with our large group of performers with our theatre, and it's a nice way to post and keep them in the loop. I think that the interface and the design is easy for users to get accustomed to. Works nicely for our student conversations when they are involved in a class together and have similar topics to talk about. What do you dislike? Wish ...

good for keeping clients in the know

What do you like best? I like that it stores all recent files in one place best. What do you dislike? It can be a hassle if you get logged out and creating all the different buckets can lead to confusion but other than that great. Recommendations to others considering the product I would recommend - keeps everything and everyone literally on the same page. What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? We use it as a project manager ...

Can't say enough good things

What do you like best? I love that Basecamp helps me, along with a group of freelancers, all on track and working together on multiple projects in an organized fashion. I'm no longer being inundated with emails, and can focus on and prioritize my crucial tasks for the day. It's so simple to use - our team varies in terms of tech savviness, and everyone can get logged in and self-train in a day or so. This was a game-changer for our team. I also love the ability to see/preview creative ...

Project management made super easy

What do you like best? I love that there's a thorough record of everything our team is working on in one, easy-to-search place. We've got a lot of projects in operation at once, and Basecamp makes it easy to quickly check in on the open tasks. You can customize it to work within your personal "style" (do you want to see a calendar or a list? and you can have as many people as you need working within one space. What do you dislike? With the introduction of Basecamp 3, our team was ...

Not very intuitive!

What do you like best? There are lots of features -- checkins, to-do lists, message boards, doc uploads. It's very robust. What do you dislike? Basecamp really isn't intuitive to use, especially compared to other project management sites like Trello or Asana. Onboarding clients is much more time intensive. What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? I was looking for a project management solution, and have also used this as a member in ...

Basecamp is very easy to use and great for projects.

What do you like best? We work with a production company out of town so it's great that we can communicate through this program and make sure everyone is on the same page. What do you dislike? I did not dislike anything about the program. What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? We are not trying to solve any business problems.
