I love this product

PROS & CONS What are the best aspects of this product? Upload your file and forget about it. $5 monthly and you have more than 3TB backed up of the files that are extremely large (image sequences, 300GB ProRes exports) I’m able to use the whole upstream connection so I can know that the upload is fast. What aspects are problematic or could work better? I would like to back up some network shares or to have some other way in order to back up some huge data. It takes 80 days in order to ...

Backblaze is great until you need a restore. God forbid you are stuck with the slowest and worst download in the history of downloads. Half the time it doesn't work. We are searching for a new enterprise solution.

Stars for API and CLI

From a hobby developer standpoint (1) for standard server backups to cloud, using rclone on a Linux CLI was a charm and uploads are fast and (2) for integration with a server app, the API with HTTP requests is intuitive and well documented. Probably a detail for many, but uploads are done with client (customer) making a POST request → no need to implement dealing with POST/GET *from* B2 and no corresponding CORS headache :)Also, bucket restrictions/permissions are very easy to understand ...

It has saved my work and life!

PROS & CONS What are the best aspects of this product? Backblaze is a kind of set-it-and-forget-it tool and it has greatly saved my life. Before switching to Backblaze, I was using Time Machine. It was when inconsistencies were going on with the latter service that I considered employing Backblaze. I’m relieved that I settled on the service because just after two months, I lost everything at Time Machine. So the backup on Backblaze saved my life. It helped me recover everything that I ...

USA focused. Super slow.

USA focused, USA is the only country in the world. Ok, if you want to use an "EU" server (no mention of where that is in the EU) then you have to do it at sign up time, if you don't then tough luck... you can't change it. Software is pants. Regularly fails, crashes etc. I have 100mbit upload, and I'm getting 7.75mbit to their mystery EU server. If you join the backblaze reddit forum where some actual backblaze employees work, if you criticise or say something doesn't work, they try to ...

Test if you will restore all data or else…

Update: Their software was not backing up OneDrive for unknown reasons, no errors were reported and the support is none the wiser. It will happen again then - with One Drive or something else. It's not in their engineering culture to report on errors, apparently.Today I realized my documents were not syncing with OneDrive since October - that's expected from Micro$oft service...Backblaze was not backing up any documents that were held there, i.e. nothing from Desktop, My Documents or ...

After An OS change for unrelated reasons, I reinstalled Backblaze or at least tried to. Response from support is usually one reply every 24 hrs, different agents every time, faults not addressed and after 4 weeks I decided no more, they are crap. Worked fine for cirst year or so but when needed, a waste of money. AVOID, use incremental backup, usb discs and a fireproof box.

avoid it by far

Endless obstructions and non-transparent squeezing of money. The endless sequence of actions required to attempt a backup cannot be explained other than as bull**it abuse. Backblaze was co-caused by my transfer to the emergency coronary unit at the hospital, just before Christmas. Have an instinct for self-preservation and avoid it by far.

Too cumbersome to restore, extra fees to get your data

I had a crash and had to restore my OS. I hoped to restore files from Backblaze, but the restore process is tedious, like trying to fill a jug with an eyedropper by selecting individual files, etc. OR they will charge you $99 for a USB drive containing all your data. Why can't I just download my whole database at once?

Backblaze was no help when I needed them either

Mac OS user. Backblaze customer for several years + it had worked fine. At their urging, I added 2 Factor Verification to my account. A few months later, my Mac died. I could not login to my BB account, as the 2FV wasn't working (turns out I had set it up with an old work phone that I no longer had access to; and they ONLY allow 1 phone number), and the backup codes that I had did not work either. So, I have to join the chorus of people saying that Backblaze would not give me my data that ...
