Apache Solr has flexible Query for API and powerful engine

It would be good to handle authentication natively in an enterprise scale. Currently it has to be wrapped by another service that does authentication. A Simple, Yet Capable Search Platform

What do you like best? Solr is a fairly straight forward product, that does what ti's supposed to with minimal maintenance. We are on an older version of Solr, so most of my dislikes around the clunkiness of the UI has been fixed in newer versions as far as I can tell.
