It's ok...
I was using Destiny at my prior library and have not been that excited about Alexandria. The reports are not nearly as easy to get and some things are just downright confusing. It could use some work to make it more user friendly.

I think the system works great
Coming into the Library new last year this system was a little overwhelming but with a little bit of training from the last person in here and also a little help from others who work in school library's I got the basics down. Now since I have been in here for a year I am looking to dive into the system a little more and learn more specific features of what it can do to make my job easier. This is not as easy as it sounds. There is guide for the system but to be honest when I have a question ...

Leaves something to be desired
While the customer service is excellent, the product is not intuitive, is lacking a quality search function and lacking integration with other technologies (Overdrive, databases, etc.). There is a lot of manual inputting.

Alexandria: The Good, the Bad and the Mediocre
Cataloging is always easy and I love how it works great consistently. This is good. When checking in a stack of books there is rarely a person in front of me while I'm doing so. So WHY is there an interruptive pop-up that says this patron has an overdue when the most likely item i check in will be that overdue? what is the purpose of this??? this is the very bad. And finally when printing out patron details the page formatting does not show everything easily even if you change the page set ...

Should be web-based
It is limiting to only have access to Alexandria as downloaded software, especially as a Chromebook user. Additionally, the lack of intuity with the names of commands makes it difficult for non-librarian trained staff to use the program to the fullest.

Alexandria
The system is capable of a lot. Unfortunately, I haven't used its full potential because the manual hasn't been helpful in teaching me how to use the system's features. When I purchased the Alex system, my school did not send me across the country to a training session, or pay to have someone come here to show me how to use it, so I've had to learn the system on my own. I wish I knew how to use all the features, and I try to utilize the manual, but most often I can't find the section that I ...

Tech Support is Great
The tech support office is great but as a new librarian, the site is a little difficult to navigate on my own. A hard copy manual would be useful to have. It would be very nice to have some tech support in the field where someone could actually sit down and explain the program without doing it over the phone.

I think the visual experience is chaotic and should be simplified and oriented left to right only-not all over.
The title says it all.

Upgrade is an issue
We upgraded to the online version this fall and have not had a good experience. It takes more clicks to accomplish things. The researcher is much less user friendly. The cataloging doesn't let me do things I did before. The fact that you can't simply click on authors or series in researcher is a huge issue that makes the product much less helpful.

Alexandria Review
I have used Alexandria Automation Software in 2 school libraries now, and it has overall been a positive experience. You get a robust program for the price, and the software does anything you would need in a library. However, it is not always intuitive, and even after 2 years I still feel like I am learning things about the software. I use the self-check out interface in my school, and that is very clear for people to use, even young children. I also think that running reports and utilities ...
