The best design tools for developers who have no background in graphics design

What do you like best? Omnigraffle is an amazing graphic design tool for layout, UI, diagrams, and for creating technical manuals and instructions. What do you dislike? The only thing that I don't like about just like other excellent product for Omni Group is that it is not available for Windows. Recommendations to others considering the product: OmniGraffle is an extremely productive tool for all areas of your organization when it comes to creating various types of visual ...

Visio for Mac

What do you like best? Super easy to use for non-design folks to visualize information in alternative ways. They're pretty diligent about continuous updates and enhancements to make the software more applicable for new uses. What do you dislike? There have been times when the updates have changed the fundamental way you use the software and I've had to take some time to teach myself the new functionality before jumping into a time-sensitive assignment. What problems are you solving ...

A great workflow tool

What do you like best? Omnigraffle comes ready with different libraries to make throwing together a presentation worthy workflow really easy, and relatively fast. What do you dislike? I wish that making straight lines (especially with arrows in work flows) was easier. What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? I am working on enterprise software for Digital Media Planning and Buying. Omnigraffle has been used by myself and co-workers for ...

Omnigraffle Still #1 for Wireframing

What do you like best? Omnigraffle allows me to move faster than any other piece of software to quickly map out ideas. What do you dislike? The output is still not as beautiful as it could be - there should be more tools to allow for beautiful templating so additional software is not needed to create presentation quality artifacts. Recommendations to others considering the product: Use Omnigraffle for rapid thought mapping and wireframing - but you might want to switch to another ...

The best diagraming tool on a Mac

What do you like best? Extremely quick. Easily customizable. Lots of shortcuts. Large community, Tons of templates. What do you dislike? Needs some polish when it comes the the user interface and shortcuts. There are also bugs, bugs, and bugs. Recommendations to others considering the product: I would highly recommend Omnigraffle over most diagramming tools out there. I have tried many of them and in one way or another they have left me disappointed and have turned back to ...

Sitemaps

What do you like best? The ability to easily create sitemaps for my projects. I like that there are different diagram formats that one can choose from as well as the ability to customize pretty much anything. What do you dislike? I wish the diagrams produced had a slightly more professional feel but it isn't such a severe issue that would impact my work. What problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized? When I need to generate sitemaps, Omnigraffle ...

One of my key tools!!!

What do you like best? I did the way it handles layers and how I can used one design as a shared layer is so helpful; also how importing stencils has been the best for me and my workflow designs. What do you dislike? the lack of preset canvas sizes in the canvas preferences Recommendations to others considering the product: if you can map the short cut keys to what you're used to to help with cutting down the learning curve if your switching from say indesign to omnigraffle What ...

Organizing ideas and scenario for a novel

What do you like best? Omnigraffle allows me to organize ideas, concepts, and link them together, giving me a clear vision of my writing work to come. What do you dislike? The latest versions are a bit sophisticated for my personal use, I don't need so many features. Recommendations to others considering the product: If you need a very complete tool, this one is for you. But if you just need a mind mapping app, you may prefer simpler one, like Scapple for example. What problems ...

Extremely flexible tool for fast wireframes and mockups. Good export options.

What do you like best? There's a lot of flexibility provided in OmniGraffle. One can set up multiple canvases at various sizes. On those canvases you can have many, independent layers that you can turn on and off (for demonstrating "states" in UI design, printing, exporting to a PDF). One can order layers very easily as well as lock them on a canvas. OmniGraffle also has a "shared layer" feature (a canvas can have many) which allows one to set up common elements such as navigation ...

Perfect tool to make sketches

What do you like best? I discovered OmniGraffle looking for a tool to create ER diagrams for table based database design. Once you try it, you could not do anything without. OmniGraffle is a powerful tool, full of options: you can make schemas but is a great software to create vector drawings. Grids, alignments, the countless ways to customize any object and any form (starting from the simplest, such as curved lines breaks) are incredible: you can work on grappling points, grouped into ...
